Supporting Neighbourhood Centres

Member of the Legislative Council for Rumney, Sarah Lovell and I recently visited some of the neighbourhood centres in our electorates to donate much-needed supplies of non-perishable food and groceries.

We hear all the time from people in our electorates who are struggling to make ends meet. Food security is a big issue in Tasmania, with more than half of Tasmanians having been unable to afford enough healthy food for meals or going hungry over the last year.

Neighbourhood centres do an incredible job supporting people in need, providing emergency food relief and helping connect them with other supports. There is no shame in reaching out for help.

The number of people seeking help from the Warrane Mornington Neighbourhood Centre has tripled recently, as more and more people are feeling the pinch from cost of living pressures like rising electricity bills and increased rents. I know any donations they receive are greatly appreciated.

If you’d like to make a donation, check when deliveries can be received or find out what items are currently needed by contacting your local neighbourhood centre. Our local centre in Pembroke is Warrane Mornington Neighbourhood Centre.
